For Writers
My entrance into the children's publishing world was puzzling. Really! A self-published puzzle book helped earn a scholarship to the Highlights Foundation Writers' Workshop at Chautauqua where I met Mary Lou Carney, creator and editor of Guideposts for Kids. She said she was always in need of puzzles, and invited me to submit some. The rest, as they say, is history.
I've had 200+ puzzles published since then, in a number of magazines, along with articles, crafts, and games. I've taken my puzzles beyond children's magazines into the Alaska tourism industry and retail shops across the country. My first puzzle book has just arrived, with a picture book to follow. And it's only the beginning!
Online Puzzle Workshops
Whether you want to get your foot in the publishing door, undertake a short project while awaiting your proofs, or boost your writing income, puzzles could be the answer. Beyond crosswords and word searches, beyond children's magazines, the puzzling world extends infinitely.
Learn to create and submit puzzles through two online workshops.
Stage 1: Puzzle Prep
For beginning writers. Learn who buys puzzles, how to research and approach different markets, format submissions, and what to expect from contracts.
Stage 2: Puzzle Making
For established writers and Puzzle Prep graduates. Create four different puzzles, in four different styles, ready for submission.
