If it's not a live link, we're still working on it. Please let us know what else we might provide to make your participation easier.

Accepting the Bookmark Challenge: The Basics

  1. Send an email to Funk & Weber Designs to register your shop for the Challenge. Include your name, shop name, address, and phone number. Registering allows us to include you on the Needle and Thread Web site and blog.
  2. Contact the library or school of your choice to explain the program and ask if they'd like to receive the bookmarks you collect. Refer to the sample text for a list of points to cover with the library.
  3. Advertise:
    • post Challenge signs in your shop
    • announce the program in your newsletter and on your Web site
    • put a stack of bag-stuffers by the register to hand out with purchases
    • make a special display of all your bookmark patterns and materials.
  4. March 19 - May 7, collect bookmarks from customers. Ask stitchers to attach a slip of paper to their bookmark with their first name and the title of a favorite book. After all, needlework is personal.
  5. May 11 - 17, deliver bookmarks to your chosen library or school. It would be nice to make this an event, perhaps a reading hour where your customers read their favorite picture books aloud to kids--and of course stitch when they're not reading!
  6. Send an email to Funk & Weber Designs to report the number of bookmarks you collected.
  7. Congratulations! You've just exposed kids, parents, and librarians to needlework, brought attention to Children's Book Week, and encouraged kids to read!
